Title: School Social Worker

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Position Overview:

One of the largest schools in New York, who serve underserved and BIPOC communities, operating in over 50 cities across the State, they are now seeking a dedicated School Social Worker to join their team, providing critical support to students, families, and the broader school community. This role involves crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and collaboration with educators and community agencies to foster a supportive and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide crisis intervention and behavior management to facilitate students’ return to classrooms and support their ability to meet high expectations.
  • Offer individual and group counseling, both school-based and mandated.
  • Identify and train others to recognize students and family members who may benefit from counseling.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for social and emotional development and intervention.
  • Refer, monitor, and evaluate individuals and families to external resources and services.
  • Administer records, documentation, and ensure compliance with relevant activities.
  • Serve as a Case Manager and a member of the Child Study Team.
  • Strengthen and support parent and family involvement in school activities.
  • Plan and develop school-based interventions in collaboration with educators.
  • Partner with community agencies and resources to enhance student support.
  • Address learning, behavior, and attendance concerns while strengthening home, school, and community partnerships.
  • Evaluate students considering personal and family history, socio-economic factors, and cultural differences.
  • Assess the impact of home, community, and school factors on students’ social and academic adjustment.
  • Contribute to the implementation and enhancement of the school’s systems and culture.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and participate in annual staff orientation and training.
  • Share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities, including supervision and field trips.
  • Attend and participate in events outside normal school hours, such as family nights, student performances, and teacher-parent conferences.
  • Collaborate with teachers in planning and participating in professional development activities.
  • Adhere to policies, standards, and responsibilities outlined in the School’s Faculty & Staff Handbook.
  • Demonstrate belief in and alignment with the organization’s core values and educational philosophy.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work with LMSW or LCSW licensure (Required).
  • Valid School Social Worker Certification from NYDOE.
  • Strong drive to improve students’ lives both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Proven track record of high achievement and self-motivation.
  • Experience working with urban schools is highly preferred.
  • Alignment with the organization’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is essential.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: Starting between $64,000 to $96,900, depending on professional experience, education, training, certifications, tenure, and location. Salary ranges may differ for roles outside New York City.
