Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Direct Service 

  • Conduct timely casework services with individual students and/or their families to assess and resolve personal, social, or emotional challenges affecting their educational and social progress. 
  • Collaborate with campus staff and other school district personnel to develop and implement strategies, both individual and small group, that promote student learning, including dropout prevention, truancy prevention, behavior interventions, and other campus-requested supports. 
  • Make home visits as needed, based on collaboration with campus/district staff and following department guidelines. 
  • Provide staff consultation on behavioral, emotional, and environmental issues impacting student engagement in the learning process. 
  • Intervene in problem situations to facilitate strategies addressing discipline, attendance issues, and conflict resolution to prevent escalation of negative behaviors and consequences. 
  • Offer crisis intervention services at both the campus and district levels. 
  • Manage a caseload of McKinney-Vento and PRS students. 
  • Provide Tier II services such as solution-focused counseling and process groups. 

Indirect Service 

  • Participate in campus, district, and community committees, including IEP, IST, and Attendance Committees, to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety concerns, and program development for students. 
  • Attend or conduct professional development meetings as required. 
  • Assist campuses in identifying and verifying the status of McKinney-Vento students, foster-care families, and unaccompanied youth to confirm eligibility for services and provide information on McKinney-Vento rights; advise families of available services as needed. 
  • Train and mentor new social workers or student interns. 
  • Provide staff or parent training sessions on identified topics when requested. 

Reports 

  • Maintain an accurate and detailed monthly calendar reflecting plans and activities. 
  • Keep a daily log of students seen. 
  • Complete accurate and timely case notes in the team electronic documentation system. 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • None 

Qualifications 

Qualification Requirements

The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required unless otherwise stated as preferred.   • Master’s degree in Social Work. 
  • LCSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners OR LMSW. 
  • LMSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners OR LCSW. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and families. 
  • Knowledge of social work services policies and procedures and an understanding of ethical and professional responsibilities. 
  • Understanding of social, psychological, and educational development in children. 
  • Ability to interface with community agencies. 
  • Effective collaboration skills with district staff, multiple campus staff, students, and parents. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in working with diverse populations. 
  • Organizational skills for managing documentation and reports. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
