This position is responsible for providing psychopharmacology services for patients. The Psychiatrist is responsible for assisting the Director of Behavioral Health in reviewing and/or creating all behavioral health medical policies and protocols and for providing input to the Director on all psychiatry-related services. The Psychiatrist functions under the general supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health.

  • Perform thorough psychiatric evaluations and mental status examinations for patients seeking behavioral health services, ensuring comprehensive assessment and diagnosis.
  • Take accountability for prescribing and monitoring medications for patients under care, with a focus on ensuring safe and effective pharmacological interventions.
  • Conduct medication follow-up visits for all evaluated patients, maintaining ongoing monitoring and adjustment of treatment plans as necessary, unless specifically consulting for psychopharmacology, in which case coordinating with primary care providers for follow-up.
  • Facilitate referrals for non-psychiatric physical health issues, maintaining open communication with patients’ primary care providers to ensure integrated care and holistic treatment approaches.
  • Offer consultation and support to department staff and in-house providers, including warm hand-offs and collaboration with primary care teams, while also maintaining meticulous clinical documentation in compliance with departmental and licensing standards. Additionally, actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, utilization reviews, and quality assurance activities, contribute to the establishment of medical policies within the Behavioral Health department, supervise PMHNP clinical care and documentation, and engage in relevant committees or working groups as directed by the Director, demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive and patient-centered psychiatric care.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Licensed to practice Adult and/or Child Psychiatry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or eligible for such certification.
  • Preference for two years of practice experience, preferably at a FQHC.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Cape Verdean Creole preferred.
