The Director of Behavioral Health oversees the operations of the entire Department. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of trauma-informed, culturally competent behavioral health, addictions, and psychiatry services. In addition, the individual develops and recommends goals and objectives for the Department and prepares and implements policies and procedures. The Director assesses performance in relation to goals and recommends new approaches and policies to effect improvement in the efficiency and scope of services provided. The Director works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer and other clinical and operational leadership to ensure effective integration of BH services into Primary Care.

Administrative:

  • Actively engages in committee and working group participation as directed by the Chief Medical Officer, contributing to strategic decision-making processes within the organization.
  • Works closely with senior management to develop and prioritize departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for recruitment, scheduling, and supervision of departmental staff, providing ongoing guidance and training in clinical methodologies.
  • Plays a key role in enhancing the quality of behavioral health services through collaboration on program development, training initiatives, and adherence to best practices, while also overseeing performance evaluations, quality improvement activities, and contract management.

Clinical:

  • Delivers patient care utilizing appropriate treatment modalities across various age groups.
  • Offers clinical supervision to licensed or eligible behavioral health staff, oversees case referrals from primary care providers, and manages staff caseloads to ensure optimal patient access and quality care.

Regulatory and External Representation:

  • Ensures compliance with behavioral health and psychiatry program regulations, including maintaining confidentiality in electronic health records and clinic licensure.
  • Represents the organization at external meetings and prepares for audits and site visits to uphold regulatory standards, collaborating with relevant stakeholders and overseeing adherence to Bureau of Substance Abuse Services and other regulatory requirements.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum educational level of MSW with full, active licensure in Massachusetts.
  • At least five years of medical or clinical social work practice experience.
  • Prior management or leadership experience, preferably at a FQHC, preferred.
  • Strong commitment to community-based and integrated behavioral health.
  • Bilingual in English with Spanish or Cape Verdean Creole preferred.
